One of my local pubs is trying to become an Embassy to the Redonda Islands to try and avoid the smoking ban … thanks to Gavin for the link.

Dis-gui-sed

I know that it will embarrass her, but I found this amusing!
During a guided tour of my flat this week, a friend saw the hideous collection of ‘baby-guy’ photos left on the wall since my birthday. Looking at a picture of a leaner sixth-form me, complete with a straggly beard, she said something like “What’s your brother’s name?”
If enough people hassle me, I *might* even put up before and after pictures for you to compare …

The Lesser of Two Evils?
February 5th, 2007 · No Comments
A tough one - either cope for a couple of days with a newly self-number-one-shawn head complete with some minor tracks down the back, or just bic the whole lot (i.e. about four hairs ) off?
Its easy. The GirlfriendDecree banning less than an average of 1mm of hair is still in force, which means I have to survive at work for a couple of days ![]()

Tapas Orgy
January 30th, 2007 · No Comments
Madrid was quite literally a feast of tapas, beer and sleep deprivation. Thoroughly recommended! TheBeerMonster enjoyed his status as official guide, and attempted to walk the four of us around as many bars in the city as possible in the 30 hours we were there. Thankfully, with the Canon busted, my only photographic evidence are a few grainy shots of very drunk but strangely familiar people attempting to dance in a smoky club.
The only real fly in the ointment was predictably easyJet, who I will be avoiding like the plague from now on. Both the flight out from Gatwick and the return from Madrid were delayed, which meant I was tucked up in bed *far* too late in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Oh, and I’m on the wagon for the next few weeks. Until the 24th of February that is!

Linux Gaming Pleasure …

Subtitle - RPGs do not affect social skills
_Wow, I’m on a blogging roll here!_
The only thing lacking from my current Ubuntu wide computing experience, has been the ability to partake in the odd game or two. Stealing Rita’s Windows laptop worked up to a point, she quite rightly challanged and won perminent custody. The only workable solution were existing Linux Windows emulators. After messing around with WINE and meeting mixed success, I could not stand going cold turkey from Balder’s Gate any longer, gave up and purchased Cedega.
I know there are arguments regarding the pro’s and con’s of this very commerial version of an originally open-source tool, but I’m just looking at the outcome. Baldur’s Gate worked first time:

Its happened!
Thanks to everyone who helped me celebrate my 30th in style, all of almost two weeks ago! I’m very slack not having blogged this already. Most embarrassingly enough, Pete has beaten me by already posting pictures of the night’s events. However he neglected to include a few choice examples that featured him …
A GuyMas would not be the same without tequila …
Thanks to Sarah who ensured that the fishtanks in the loo’s were also part of this albumn!
Since I am a wonderful brother, how could I pass over this chance of humiliating my sister on the interWeb? I have to pay her back for bringing numerous revolting baby-schoolkid-dorky teenager pictures and creating a gallery of them at my flat. I destroyed the worse pictures of naked baby-Guy and uber-dorky-fourteen-year-old Guy with a Warhammer T-shirt …
One of my favourite picture contenders for a Caption Competition. My entry would simply be “Burp!”
Go to Flickr for more pictures, obviously I will have to vet and invite you. I’m very happy that a good night was rounded off by some fantastic snaps; including some great black and white portraits. These may be the last pictures my trusty Canon will ever produce, since I managed to drop and break it at the end of the night ![]()

Why is it that drinking binges creep up on you unnoticed in the middle of the week?
I woke up this morning at eight feeling like death, and quite possibly legally unable to drive.
Eventually crawled into work at around 10:30, and pepped up soon enough after a combination of Nurofen, water, coffee, and the obligitory McHangoverLunch. The occasion was a colleagues work leaving do - the ‘quick pint after work’ turned into ‘let get a cab into town’ turned into ‘let’s find somewhere open late’ turned into finding myself finally trying to sleep in a spinning bedroom at four in the morning. We ended up in Junk in Southampton; good crowd, fun and ‘groovy’ R&B ( Cue Pete dropping his coffee in his lap! ), and most of the students there roughly only half our ages …
Which reminds me to finish off a few posts here that are long overdue. I have not kept up to date with several important events, Christmas, New Year and my bloody birthday to name a few!
Surprisingly enough today has gone pretty well at work. I have a juicy and interesting task to sink my teeth into, but in order not to break the non-Geek nature of this post, I may pop it in another post.
Erm, time to go and relax before setting off early tomorrow. On a several-weeks-ago-spur of the moment weekend break. To Madrid. For a beer trip. Doh!

Season’s Greeting!
December 19th, 2006 · 12 Comments
Here is a contribution to the festive cheer! This merry little piece of coding was floating around at work, and amused me suitably enough to deserve throwing on the Blog. Go on - grab a C compiler and give it a whirl.

Half Pint Shocker
December 11th, 2006 · 1 Comment
Photographic evidence of a half-pint shocker last Friday night … the identify of this very guilty party has been hidden to prevent erm the kicking that I would get should I have put up the original grainy picture for the world to see.
(Note - picture now removed )
Saying that, it was embarrassing how shit I felt the next day after my grand total of not many pints. I was so slossled that after staggering back on Saturday morning, I collapsed in front of the box and involuntarily watched a good couple of hours of ‘Velvet Goldmine’.
A pub tip for people around Southampton’s Bedford Place is The Pensioner’s Arms - that’s where a few of us ended up. Its a bit different that most others in the student friendly pre-town area, in that you can mostly hear yourself think, and is definitely in the pub rather than bar category.
Hang on, what a wonderful website www.beerintheevening.com is! I’d heard of it before, but this evening I just stumbled on it via Google. Someone out there had a pretty good idea …

Mutant Christmas Tree
December 7th, 2006 · 2 Comments
Some advice for people out there eagerly thinking of furnishing a house with a real Christmas tree …
Just make sure that you get the chance of seeing the thing before it is wrapped up. My B&Q tree, while a good size and so far house trained with regard to dropping needles everywhere, looks like a mutant tree variety that lacks branches in the middle. I’ve tried to cover up this gap with boubles and flashing lights … it will be fine!
